The Ups and Downs of Summer
Finally having the opportunity to sit down and blog, I find myself in amazement at how incredibly fast the summer has went! Beginning my summer in May and ending in late August, I thought for sure summer would last way too long. To my amazement, the Indiana State Fair is now here, which means school is soon to follow.
The year 2010 for me has some important dates for my life. July 19, I finally became an "adult," turning 21. This birthday also means it is my last year as a national junior member where I will finish my "junior days" of showing at World Dairy Expo (WDE) and the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE). This year also marked some other special events in my life, but these two are the most pertinent right now.
This age change also means I will no longer be on the Indiana Junior Holstein board. Having served for the past 5 years on the board, as Secretary/Treasure and Reporter, interacting with the junior members will definitely be missed! Thankfully, I still have one sibling that will continue being a part of the association!
Another major highlight of my summer was watching my oldest sister, Whitney, marry into a wonderful family! As I write this, her husband and her are on their honeymoon in Cozumel and I have received texts from her informing me of all the lizards and iguanas that she has became friends with as they walk from place to place. Bittersweet emotions filled all of our family members last week as we watched the first child from our family walk into holy matrimony.
As for events on the farm, calves have been born, hay has been quite a task to get done with mother nature not being the kindest, and the constant ride on the milk price roller coaster has challenged us all this summer. It is our job, as farmers, to keep our chins up and continue caring for these God-created creatures no matter how challenging times get. Full faith in our creator will not only give us the courage and strength to continue our daily tasks, but will also allow us to shine our light and share our happiness to those around us that need it.
